Highty Tighties March in Governor's Inaugural:
Highty-Tighty alumni and friends,
On Saturday, January 16, 2010, the Highty-Tighties were in Richmond for the inauguration of Virginia's new governor, Bob McDonnell. They had returned to campus from their break early to prepare for the parade, and they looked very sharp. They are to be commended for doing such an outstanding job getting ready after a month-long layoff. On behalf of all Highty-Tighty alumni, I have sent Cadet Major Allie Greif congratulations to be passed on to the entire Band.
Our Sue Evangelista was there with her video camera as always, and here is a link to the video she took of the Regimental Band as they waited for the parade to start and then marched in it. Thanks to Sue for all she does to provide us with her videos.
Sue included the following note with her video when she sent it to me:
"When I walked passed the reviewing stand (before the band), I believe Mrs. McDonnell is the lady in the white suit and the Governor is on her right side and turned away from me. As the band passed the reviewing stand, he is turned toward the band. You can see them applauding the entire time the band passed by them. The crowd was relatively quiet as I passed the reviewing stand with the group in front of us. As soon as "The Highty-Tighties" was announced, the crowd exploded...the announcer had to pause before he continued the introduction....then my camera started to record. Notice the difference in the crowd noise between the two clips. Then announcement continued , "the Virginia Tech Regimental Band..."
Quite a few alumni were present in Richmond to see the Highty-Tighties. For those of you who were not there, but who live in Virginia, I hope you got to see them on television. While watching them on television, I thought they looked and sounded better than any other band that passed the reviewing stand.
